The (humble) Smell of Success

WE MADE IT! With less than 48 hours to go, we can officially announce our Pozible campaign has reached its target. It has been quite a journey. Let’s just look at this briefly, as it all adds to our sense of achievement.

False Start

First of all, we launched a earlier campaign but after a little while, we realised it simply wasn’t heading where it should… so we took a huge gamble and cancelled it, with the view to re-launching with a new target and more generous rewards. With even a pledge of $50 you would now get a copy of the book. Also, $5 pledges would receive a token of our gratitude in the form of a little thank you postcard.

We did lose some pledgers in the switchover to the new campaign, but we knew it was a risk we had to take. Most of our loyal supporters simply came right over and re-pledged.

Surprises

The biggest surprise has been that the most popular pledge amounts have been $50 and $100. Here we were thinking that giving rewards for $5, $10 and $25 would encourage more lower priced pledges, but it just goes to show, that once people have decided to pledge, it means they really want to support you as much as possible.

Challenges

One thing we realised early on was that although we didn’t want to overload our regular social media followers with constant reminders about our campaign, we needed to get our campaign out to as many people as possible. Sorry if you got sick of our posts…. After this, you’ll nary hear the P-word again from us…

Then there is the old juggling real life with creative vision… With the two of us in full time work and study, and being quite far from a lot of our supporters up here in Northern NSW, we felt we were just invisible beings existing in the intangible land of social media… But that’s how Pozible runs, so we tried to do our best. Let us know below if you saw any of our posters or fliers out there in human-land too! We had a wonderful group of friends posting them out and about for us.

Couple this with a job loss 5 days before Christmas, the Creative Couples headquarters have been rather focused on, well, life beyond Pozible.

But all our hard work and the work and support of all of you has brought us HERE! Happy dance!

We also kept in the back of our minds the other Pozible campaigne we’ve supported, and which motivated us to keep at it. Just two of these were Melbourne musician Rose Wintergreen who has such a lovely connection with her supporters on social media. Then there was the wonderful Archer Magazine campaign, which reminded us that even when it’s looking hairy, the project will still get funded even if at the 11th hour! Getting a copy of their magazine in our hot little hands also reminded us what we are working towards. In 2014, our book will be in YOUR hands!

What next?

Well, there’s always a few hours to make any last minute pledges. Pozible DOES allow us to go over our target, and the fact is, the money we receive will go a hell of a long way but as with any project, much more comes out of our own pockets. So you still get rewards for all pledges right up until closing time.

Now we put our heads down and bums up… and get this dream realised! I want to finish with something we posted on Facebook a few days ago. It is a wonderful piece of motivation taken from the latest issue of Dumbo Feather; a quote from legendary dancer Martha Graham which sums up just why we HAVE to write this book. IMG_20131231_155828

  1. Woo hoo! Well I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed one of your posters in the Vegie Bar (Fitzroy, Melbourne), on the wall amongst all of the awesome bands, events and creative culture – just where it belonged 🙂
